Prevention of Tooth Decay
Prevention of tooth decay is a long-term and comprehensive process that continues throughout life. Its aim is to prevent tooth decay, gum disease and other oral health problems.
The foundation of prevention is understanding the main causes of these conditions. The most common cause of both tooth decay and periodontitis is dental microbial plaque, a thin layer of bacteria that accumulates on the surface of the teeth. If plaque is not removed regularly, it can lead to tooth decay, gum inflammation and other diseases of the oral cavity.
Effective prevention therefore focuses primarily on regular and thorough oral care, together with regular check-ups with a dentist or dental hygienist.
The Foundations of Tooth Decay Prevention
-
protecting tooth enamel through fluoride treatment, which strengthens the enamel and reduces the risk of tooth decay
-
thorough daily oral hygiene, particularly proper tooth brushing and cleaning between the teeth
-
regular preventive dental check-ups, supplemented by X-ray examinations when necessary
-
regular dental hygiene appointments, which help remove dental plaque and tartar
-
timely treatment of gum inflammation and periodontal disease
With proper prevention, it is possible to significantly reduce the risk of tooth decay and maintain healthy teeth and gums throughout life.
